Hessing Supervers will build 'factory of the future' in Greenport

10 November 2020

VENLO - Zwaagdijk-based Hessing Supervers plans to build a new 'factory of the future' in the Greenport Venlo area of northern Limburg. By realising this new production location, Hessing is taking an important strategic step to ensure and continue Hessing's continuity and growth in 2021 and beyond.

Construction of the plant will start in the first quarter of 2021 and is expected to be operational 2 years later.

Increasing demand for fresh-cut fruit, vegetables and meals                  Hessing Supervers is a leading and innovative specialist in the sliced fruit, vegetable and meal solutions market. Cutting, washing and packaging fresh fruit and vegetables requires a high-quality and efficient production process. This places high demands on production sites. The new 'factory of the future' will soon offer plenty of opportunities to expand capacity and further automate, mechanise and robotise production processes. Besides innovation, sustainability and circularity will play an important role in the production process.

Strategic location in the south of the country
Although the family business has strong roots in North Holland, a new production location in the south of the country is a logical choice, says CEO Frank Hessing. "An important part of our production processes now takes place in Helmond, Belfeld and Schwalmtal. A new factory near Venlo offers opportunities to centralise and optimise these activities there. This brings significant synergy benefits." The production site in Zwaagdijk-Oost including supporting office functions will be retained in the region.

Hessing is happy with the choice of the Greenport Venlo area. Frank Hessing: "North Limburg is known as an Agrifood region, we fit in well there." Hubert Mackus, deputy of the Province of Limburg and responsible for agriculture, among other things, is also delighted with Hessing's arrival: "Hessing fits in seamlessly with the Venlo region and with the ambitions and developments of the Region Deal North Limburg. Their position within this ecosystem ensures an even stronger Limburg agri-food chain. The company is also a welcome partner to work with SMEs, knowledge institutes and governments on social issues, for example within the theme of future farming. The arrival of Hessing is good for employment in Limburg and a stimulus for other companies to also establish themselves in Limburg."
