Piet Peters receives royal decoration

23 December 2024

On Thursday 19 December 2024, 79-year-old Piet Peters from Lomm was honoured with a Royal Decoration during a meeting at Museum vanBommelvanDam. He was appointed Knight of the Order of Orange Nassau for his many years of unbridled dedication to entrepreneurs, technology education and social projects in the Venlo region.

25 years of dedication to engineering and entrepreneurship

Piet Peters has put his heart and soul into his role as chairman of the Spikweien business park since 1996, representing the interests of entrepreneurs. Since 2014, he has increased his influence by fulfilling the same role within Ondernemend Venlo. Until 2023, he was also active in the Knowledge, Education and Labour Market Committee, where he worked to improve cooperation between companies and educational institutions.

Cartwright for technology promotion

One of Piet Peters' most notable contributions is his commitment to the Technodome and Business Foundation, where he was chairman for 25 years. He was the driving force behind the annual Choose Engineering Business Day, an event that inspired thousands of primary and secondary school students to pursue careers in engineering and technology.

He also realised the Experience Centre in the Technodome, where young people can discover the world of technology in an accessible way. His efforts contributed to reducing the shortage of technically skilled personnel and strengthening the regional labour market.

A tireless connector

At Spikweien, he played a key role in realising key projects at the business park. Among other things, he initiated camera surveillance, the construction of fibre-optic networks, the disconnection of rainwater and sustainable solutions such as green entrances and joint advertising objects. His ability to enthuse entrepreneurs about sustainability has had a lasting impact.

With his upcoming retirement as board member of Entrepreneurial Venlo and chairman of Spikweien at the end of this year, he leaves behind an impressive legacy.

The royal decoration is a well-deserved recognition for his enormous contribution to society and the economy of the Venlo region.
