Venlo-based Sanne Cornelissen is founder of the companies First Adventures and The Shortcut. At April, she will present her first book focusing on Artificial Intelligence (see boxed text on the next page). In it, she discusses how we can apply this development in everyday work and thus function more efficiently.
Sanne studied psychobiology and psychology in Amsterdam and Leiden. There, she gained initial knowledge about artificial intelligence. Al from the bridge class, she was working efficiently and smarter. Besides her studies, she had five side jobs. "I always had to keep many balls high, but also wanted to have time left over to do fun things, without compromising on quality. Everyone can use their focus better, so we can use our brains to the fullest. So get the best out of you. Me am hugely interested in the theory behind efficiency and taught myself the tricks to apply it."
'You don't have to be clever, but you have to know how to apply the methods'
Municipality of Venlo and AI
Last summer, councillor Erwin Boom met her when she was active as day chair at the introduction for new students. "From then on, I continued to follow Sanne via socials," Boom said. "If municipality, we are fully engaged in innovations in digitalisation. A of the developments in this is AI. This we intend to use in the future in the form of modern customer service and information provision in municipal services, but also to write essays, produce summaries, et cetera. As municipality we have collected a lot of information over the past two years, but it is good to know how pure that info is. In addition, we are of course dealing with privacy and AVG (General Data Protection Regulation). Ultimately, the goal is to work more efficiently. Sanne has a lot of knowledge regarding this fast-growing development."
Behavioural changes
At The Shortcut, one of its companies, this matter is central. "It to me is mainly about applying AI in the working day, so that it becomes part of the daily routine. The making changes in the field of work is in fact behavioural change. That is why I developed the method that ensures that enthusiasm about artificial intelligence does not fade away too soon after a course or visit to a workshop, but instead becomes part of that daily routine. This is why repeat visits are so important and why we develop a plan that suits the employee in question. First enthuse people intrinsically, only then the application with their laptop. Dan they better see the benefits of my method. Your doesn't have to be clever, but you have to know how to apply the methods. Me work for various ministries and large organisations such as Uber and Samsung." She subscribes to the importance of privacy. "This theme is becoming increasingly important in record time. We need to start capturing everything. That certainly creates challenges, as technological developments are much faster than making new laws."
'Once you know AI in your routine so you can gain about 20 per cent time'
Beyond the hype
She herself sees AI as a development that can make our lives mostly easier. At in recent years, Sanne started looking more and more into the connection between human behaviour and technology: how can the two components reinforce each other? "From research shows that AI can provide around 20 per cent time savings, quality gains and increased job satisfaction among employees. To Applying AI in our work, it is essential to know how our brain, or rather our behaviour, works. The hype around AI is over, fear is waning and AI is increasingly a regular part of our lives. The is certainly not going away anymore, but the number of people working with it structurally is still very low. Firstly, because people don't really know how to apply it and how it works for them. And in addition because it requires a different work routine and that is the most difficult of all."
AI in the daily routine
The focus now is on ChatGPT and how individuals can use it. "I actually consider it a sparring partner we can consult. A external brain as an amalgamation of all that can be found. So once you do manage to get AI into your routine, you can save about 20 per cent time. That is a whole working day a week. Moreover, it turns out that people often feel more creative and motivated when using AI. The trick is to start with one small task that you have to do anyway, like writing an e-mail or making a summary. As you see how much time and effort you save, you will automatically feel like using it more often. After that, it's a matter of repetition. For example, create a regular 'morning starter': open your AI tool immediately when you check your mail. Or Schedule an 'AI hour' twice a week to go over tasks. So AI becomes part of your daily routine step by step."

First book
"Sanne Cornelissen researched the implementation of AI in the working day, developed a four-step method for working smarter and brought the idea of writing a book about it to the attention of a number of publishing houses. Publishing house Spectrum was enthusiastic "The book is popular science but very practically written, including lots of tips and inspiration. Gun employees the working week that makes them happy. Everyone benefits: large and small companies, people in various jobs, as well as entrepreneurs and self-employed people. AI offers everyone a form of superpower that enhances your skills."
The book will see the light of day in April. Also a special event will take place in Venlo. Info on this will be announced via local media.
