'Tell about yourself for once,' was the assignment for this column. 'That's what a column is for. What do you experience and discuss while visiting an entrepreneur?' Here, of course, I am treading on thin ice. I don't want to short-circuit or harm anyone. What I discuss with an entrepreneur or government agency is confidential and should remain so.
What I can tell you about are the incidents that took place recently at Noorderpoort and Trade Port West. Both times I was alerted by an entrepreneur. I then contacted members of the Limburg-Noord Safety Region (VRLN), with which we have a fine and good cooperation. They take action and keep in touch with me. I inform - if necessary - the entrepreneur(s) and if a question comes from a company, I coordinate with the VRLN and try to solve it.
Am I doing it right this way? When my circle of acquaintances get questions from colleagues like "Your contact will sort this out, won't she?" and "She'll make sure we're safe, won't she?", I say, "Of course we'll be fine!" The board, entrepreneurs and employees at the business parks of Ondernemend Venlo have full confidence in Park Management. This is also one of the reasons why I am contacted.
Ellie Lust visited us in June during the Day of Safety, organised by Ondernemend Venlo, Rabobank and Interpolis. She explained that the reason for not calling 112, but contacting the neighbourhood police officer or Park Management directly, feels safer and more anonymous. After all, you put the responsibility on someone else.
I think there is another reason: often people do not know immediately where to go. Is it even an emergency and what is the police number again (0900-8844)? I'm usually under the direct-dial key.... and I'll be fine.
