BELFELD - On 21 June 1921, Jeu op het Veld registered with the Chamber of Commerce as an 'independent entrepreneur', after which he set up his forge & convenience store on Stationstraat in Belfeld. He certainly did not realise at the time that this business would still exist 100 years later. Today, on 21 June 2021, we have reached that milestone. Today, together with our 35 employees, we celebrate our 100th anniversary.
Jeu earned his living with his forge and convenience store that was established years later. That is not what Op het Veld still does today, yet back then the foundations were laid for the business that stands today; Jeu helped with the electrification of Belfeld. He provided the infrastructure and ensured that houses were connected to the overhead grid.
Family business
Since then, we have done many things. We had the blacksmith shop, we sold lamps, household goods and even Op het Veld bicycles that are still in circulation today. We manufactured drilling machines and we were an Electrical Installation Company. Today, the latter remains; we are a technical installation company making both electrical and mechanical installations. The third generation, Gerard op het Veld, has been at the helm since 1985, Marie-Louise op het Veld works in administration, Math op het Veld (eldest son of Sjraar) does finance and the fourth generation, Dion op het Veld, has been with Op het Veld since September 2020.
What do we do now?
From advice and budgeting, through engineering and design to the tender: we take on the complete implementation (with our partners). And then energy management with monitoring, inspections (certified) and maintenance. This is to keep the installations in top condition for the long term, allowing the building user to concentrate on his own business. By having a strong presence in the preliminary phase, we relieve the end customer and the main contractor of all technical installation issues. There is a single point of contact for all technical installation disciplines. Partly because of this, there is synergy between the various installations.
The disciplines we deal with on a daily basis are: Electrical engineering, Mechanical engineering, Security, Building automation, Renewable energy, Energy management, Technical inspections and Service & maintenance.
Sustainable into the future
Our building is 100% energy-neutral: no gas connection, the roof is full of solar panels and we control the indoor climate with heat pumps. This is our response to one of the most important issues in the coming years, sustainability.
That installations have to be sustainable is not a question, but a must. Clients want a sustainability certificate and the entire building chain must work together to achieve this. We take care of this for all building-related technical installations, from advice and design to implementation. And aftercare. That is our strength.
