Regional approach for EU migrant workers in North Limburg

21 March 2025

The number of homeless migrant workers in the Netherlands is on the rise. According to trade union CNV and the Salvation Army, this involves some 60 per cent of all people living on the streets. In our region, too, there are labour migrants who are homeless or at risk of becoming so. TAK (Labour Migrants in a Vulnerable Position), together with street workers and switch agents, among others, is committed to helping these EU migrant workers with a regional approach. Branch operates in the North Limburg municipalities: Beesel, Bergen, Gennep, Horst a/d Maas, Mook & Middelaar, Peel & Maas, Venlo and Venray.

TAK's street workers are present in the region in places where the target group is and respond to reports from chain partners. Together with the migrant worker, our street workers try to find a perspective out of homelessness. Thus, they will guide them in returning to work and housing, but also in returning to their country of origin. Together with the migrant worker, the street worker looks at whether other things are needed such as providing more information, proper registration or medical care.

TAK's switching officers try to get to the front of the issues so that EU migrant workers do not fall back into homelessness. They hold discussions with the network around the migrant worker such as housing providers, employment agencies, employers, healthcare institutions and municipalities.
